All In Black

image
Get the look: Jacket and top: Express, leggings: Target, Boots, Joyce Leslie (similar)

A year ago, if you asked my to describe my style, I probably would have said feminine with a retro twist. I was big into fit and flair dresses with cute cardigans and tights. Lately though, I've been drawn to edgier looks, like this all black ensemble I wore out with some friends recently. This moto jacket from Express has been an almost everyday wear for me these last few weeks. It looks good over everything! A pair of leggings, a tunic, and boots, and that's been my general look lately. I got these boots from Joyce Leslie, they were inexpensive, but their quality reflects that. I've been browsing around Cataluna, they have a nice selection of wide calf boots, as well as tons of plus size clothing. I've never bought purchased from them, can anyone speak for the quality?

Date Night Unblogged

image
Get the look: Sweater dress (similar, similar), tights, Boots (similar), Necklaces, Watch

Another unblogged outfit for you guys today! I wore this out to dinner for a date this past weekend. I was so excited when I found this sweater dress at Nordstrom Rack while Christmas shopping. I think it's so unique with the wrap ties, which can be tied in the front or back for different looks. I like tying it in the front to define my waist and add a little extra detail. I paired it with opaque tights and boots to dress it down a little - I'd probably do sheer black tights and black pumps to dress it up.

I was a little stumped for accessories - I'm a chunky necklace sort of girl but with the waist tie it felt a little bit much. I decided to stick to a trio of delicate gold necklaces by Rachel Roy, and my Michael Kors watch and a few bangles. A good watch is such a staple, I wear mine almost every day ever since receiving it for my birthday this past March. Hsamuel Watches has a large selection, and many of them are on sale if you're in the market!

Unblogged

Sorry for the mirror pic (and the one you'll be seeing in the next few posts), but I did promise some Unblogged outfits! Here's a little something I put together for a night out in Astoria for some Greek music a few weeks back. I love this peplum top from H&M, but it often throws me for a loop as far as how to wear it. With denim I sometimes feel it's too much blue, with red bottoms, too matchy-matchy. I'm usually not such a fan of pairing navy blue with black, but I love the silhouette the peplum top creates with the jersey skirt. Anyone have other ideas of how to wear the top?

By the way, do you see anything funky going on with the layout here on FataleFashion? Sometimes when I use Firefox it looks the the post background has gone transparent, but on IE it looks normal. I don't know how to fix it!

Oh, hey

Man oh man have I been a blogging slacker lately!! Big thanks to reader Jennifer for calling me out on it and getting me back here :) Things have been super crazy for me, being back in school full time. I forgot how much work being a student is! But, at least my hard work has paid off so far, I've got at least one A so far, and am expecting three more! Fingers crossed!

So, though I haven't really been sharing I have been dressing myself, promise! I wore this to observe a 5th grade class at a local middle school. Slacks are not usually my thing, I never even wore them when I worked in an office, but this pair from Target were a great color and fit really well, and I know they'll get some good use once I'm in the classroom regularly.

It's funny, there are two complete opposites to my style at the moment. My everyday looks have been getting much more edgy - I've been leaning towards putting together outfits that are a lot of black; I'm obsessed with mixing different textures of black together. Also, I hardly ever wear jeans anymore, I'm always in leggings and tunics for some reason. On the other hand, I'm trying to figure out ways to put together "teacher chic" looks, as I like to call it. Even though I'll need to dress conservatively as a teacher, I'm figuring out how to do it in a fun way!

I haven't had a chance to take full outfit photos in a while, so expect a few Unblogged mirror picture posts in the next few days!

Berry bliss

ff1024121ff1024122
Top, jeggings, shoes: Old Navy. Necklace: H&M. Watch: Michael Kors.

I really love the combination of colors in this striped button down I stored at Old Navy. The navy blue and fuschia complement each other so well!

This pair of Rockstar jeggings look almost teal don't they? The denim does lean a bit green which I wasn't so much a fan of, but looking at it now I quite like the effect. And they're just so comfortable!

One of my favorite things about personal style is watching it evolve, especially my own. As my first semester studying education progresses, I'm finding myself drawn towards more teacher-like pieces - button downs, shift dresses, trousers...but of course with a twist! Whatever my occupation, I don't think my wardrobe will ever be boring :)

Four-Eyes

You guys all know by now that one of my very favorite accessories are my glasses. Not only do they add a little something extra to almost any ensemble, they’re great for those days when I haven’t the time or the energy to “put on my face” if you will.

The downside, of course, for a quality pair of glasses is always the price. That’s why I’m so excited to share SmartBuyGlasses - A great site where you can find your favorite designer frames for the lowest prices around! Gucci glasses, Marc Jacobs glasses, Ray Ban glasses, even Burberry and Fendi– they’ve really got them all. In all seriousness, I found the glasses I wear now, my beloved Ray Ban RX5241 5074 for half of what I paid at a well known brick-and-mortar glasses store. It’s great to know that if I ever break these (knock on wood!) I can get them again for much less than what I paid originally :)

Added bonus? You can even order your favorite sunglasses with prescription lenses!

So, glasses lovers, what are you waiting for?

Rockstar

"Love those jeans!  Can you tell us what size you took? (as in, did you size up, take your regular size, etc).  I want to get a pair but I'm hearing so many mixed reviews regarding sizing."
FF0915122

I've gotten this question before about Old Navy's Rockstar Jeggings, and considering the fact that they're on sale right now for a mere $19, I thought I'd give some tips about sizing.

The Rockstar Jegging is my absolute go-to for skinny jeans, I  have 4 pairs right now including a pair of skinny cords, and I just ordered 2 more pair since they're practically giving them away! I know a lot of people have had trouble with sizing, and it's mostly because different colors and washes of these pants are made of different fabrics and have different amounts of stretch. The easiest way to figure out which ones will work for you is to take a look at "fit & sizing" under "About This Product" (this is not the size chart).

Picture 4

As you can see, each wash of the pant is listed, followed by what fabric it's made of. The Pop colors (Gestalt Green, Monaco Plum, etc.) are 98% Cotton, 2% Spandex. On the other hand, washes like Dark Wash, Campfire, Starry Night, and Dover (these are the denim-looking jeggings, rather than the bright colored ones) are 70% Cotton, 28% Polyester, 2% Spandex. The high cotton and low spandex content of the colored jeggings means that they're not nearly as stretchy as their 70% Cotton counterpart.

In the 70% Cotton jeggings, I wear my true size and they fit perfectly and are super duper comfortable. In 98% cotton, I recommend sizing up one size. I take a 14 in the Dark Wash and Campfire washes, and a 16 in the cord jeggings (which are also 98% cotton).

I hope this helped if you're looking to order a pair of these online. If you have an Old Navy near you, pop in while they're still on sale and try on a few pair - I really recommend them!

I know it's mid-September, but I'm still surprised by how pleasantly cool the days and nights have already become; I feel like summer wasted no time at all in bowing out this year. Not that I'm upset about it - oh, no! I'm quite excited, on the contrary, to be able to start wearing decidedly fall-like getup's like this one. I was so happy to get into a comfy cardigan and top it all off with my very favorite scarf for class last week - I even took a pair of boots out for a spin yesterday! Hey Fall, you're very welcome around these parts!

Oh, and I've been adding lots of new stuff to my Smashion shop - pop in for a look!

An Irish Adventure

Prepare for picture overload! Just a few of the hundreds I snapped with my trusty Canon Powershot during my 10-day tour around Ireland. Everything from St. Patrick's Cathedral, to the Cliffs of Moher, to kissing the Blarney Stone, among the many great places and sites we saw! I SO highly recommend Contiki Tours if you're looking to do some traveling with friends or on your own. Everything is taken care of for you so you can sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride!

I'm back!

Well hello there! I'm Ariana, remember me??

No?

How about now?

Relax guys, it's just a bowling ball. THE POINT IS, I'm back! My travels are over (sniff sniff) and I'm slowly getting in the groove of balancing grad classes and working part-time - I must say I'm enjoying it!

Now, when I was away I was disappointed in myself that I never got around to taking any photos of my outfits...and then I realized, 'Duh, Emily took pictures of you standing in front of some Irish site or other almost everyday!' So I thought I'd wean myself back into the world of blogging by sharing a few Irish OOTDs as well as some mirror shots from Greece :)

A break from regular programming...

Hi everyone! Sorry for my absence, but there's a lot going on around these parts! Friday (the 13th, ooo) was my last day of work at my current job. I can't tell you what a relief it's been these last few days to actually have some free time to do whatever my heart desires! I've spent it doing double work outs and running last minute errands for my big summer trip.

Thats right, it's vacation time - this evening actually! A friend and I are leaving tonight for an 11 day tour all around Ireland, after which I'll be flying straight to Greece to spend the rest of August with family on the little island of Skyros. So it'll be pretty quiet around here, though I'll try to pop in every so often for an outfit post (I mean, I will have a very picturesque location...). Follow me on Instagram @arianaeleni to keep up with my adventures!

As a parting gift, I'll leave you with another promo code especially for you guys from my friends over at eShakti - use FA26NAS for 10% off your order! This code expires July 31st, so get it while you can!

Hope you all have a wonderful summer, and behave ;)

One dress, two ways

IMG_8276IMG_8299IMG_8386
Dress: Dorothy Perkins. Tank top: H&M. Sunnies: Target. Gold Necklace: Rachel Roy via Syms.

I finally got this gorgeous maxi from Dorothy Perkins tailored after owning it for over a year and only ever wearing it as a skirt. I was so excited to finally be able to wear the dress on it's own (something I was never able to do before I got it tweaked), and my sorority sister's outdoor, lake-side wedding this past weekend proved to be the most perfect occasion for a bright maxi and bold accessories! Cheers to the new Mr. and Mrs!

Summer days, summer nights.

Day: Tee: Target, Shorts: DIY, Scarf: Kohl's, Sandals: Payless, Sunnies: Target. Night: Dress, H&M, Belt: Misc, Necklace: Borrowed, Sandals (same).

Days at the beach and nights out on the town call for outfits that are easy, cute, and most of all, cool! Shorts and a tee are foolproof, but don't forget a lightweight scarf in case of overactive air-conditioning. For night, there's nothing so easy as a cotton LBD and fun accessories.
