Holy wind! I'd like to thank mother nature for the wind machine she provided for photo number two, though I really wish she would have brought it down a notch.

If you've been around here for a while, you've seen this outfit's siblings before. This ruffled, polka dotted top has made appearances on the blog before, and somehow I just always want to pair it with denim and a bright cardi.

See? But hey, if it ain't broke, don't fix it, right?

WRONG. I vow the next time you see this top, it will be in a very different way. I'm thinking red pencil skirt and a blazer perhaps...

Redo

IMG_5105IMG_5093IMG_5103IMG_5088IMG_5115

Rushing to take pictures in crappy weather sure does no favors for the quality of my photos! But it's been a few days since I've gotten a chance to take some pics and I wanted to get these up for you all :)

You've seen this top from ASOS Curve before, and it's styled pretty similarly as well; I just changed up the jewelry and the shoes. I really want to pair the wrap top with a skirt but I have yet to find one that works. 'Til then, looks like this baby will continue to get the denim treatment!

He's back!!

Please excuse the poor quality of these photos - I don't know if it was the extreme wind blowing my little Gorilla Pod around or what but they didn't come out as clear as usual!

So I found this little location as I was leaving work yesterday. I liked the staircase but it was hard to find somewhere to anchor my camera. At some point I'm going to have to invest in a full size tripod; it just seems silly when I'm only using a point and shoot and not a fancy shmancy SLR.

Anywho, this is a dress that I haven't worn since one of my very first blog posts back in October. I love it because it's super comfortable and makes me feel girly with the full, flowy skirt, but still has a little edge with the zipper hardware. Best part - pockets!

It was so freezing when I was shooting these pics, so please accept this awkward "trying-to-make-my-smile-dect-work" shot of my sweet necklace from Kohls!

OMG, do you guys remember when I told you about Homeless Dog Man?? Well, he was on leave for about a month, but now he's BACK! AH! I thought I was imagining it when I heard his furious shuffling footsteps behind me, but then I turned and BAM! There he was! Paint stained pants, check! Ripped jacket, check! Pillow over crotch, CHECK!

Triumphant Return!

Well hello everyone! I hope everyone had a lovely Christmas and a very happy New Years! I would love to be able to show you my bangin' New Year's Eve outfit, but unfortunately I never got a chance to wear it :( I came down with a horrible stomach flu/strep throat on Thursday before the big night and never even made it out of bed until late Saturday :( But hey, I like to look on the bright side - I saved some money AND now I have an excuse to wear my outfit and be fabulous some other night!

Anywho, back to the good stuff. Here's an outfit I wore out shopping to do some returns and treat myself to some new goodies:

The belted vest look is one that Kimberly at Fab Finds Under $50 wears well, and it inspired me to try it out for myself with this I.N.C. vest I bought when I first started working. A cute vest is a work staple, no? I loved pairing the two different shades of plum of the top and the cowl, and my beaded necklace matched the color palette perfectly. I had to be comfy so I threw on some straightleg jeans and flats, and away we go!

So the look above is how I started off the day, but after a few trips in and out of the dressing room, I somehow ended up like this:

And I like it! The belted cowl is a look I've seen all over the blogosphere, but wasn't too sure would work on me - I thought the girls wouldn't cooperate. But, lo and behold, they did, and it does!

Off to bed, for tomorrow's the first Monday of 2011 and I will be looking fabulous! Can't wait to share all the new treasures I've picked up over the holiday season with you guys :)

The eShakti giveaway ends tomorrow at 11:59pm, so don't forget to enter for your chance to win!

It's that time of year...

...When every woman is searching for that perfect party dress! Whether it be sequined, velvet, satin, or just plain gorgeous, every fashionista wants to find that one holiday frock that makes her feel like a million bucks (without spending quite that amount!) I went through some of my favorite retailers to share my picks for holiday dresses :) Enjoy!

Sequined

Sequins are a huge trend during the holiday season - here's a wide variety of pretty numbers to shine in.

asossequinedjcpennysequinedfish

This blue sequined ASOS Curve dress is a beautiful statement piece for the holiday season. The pretty sparkle plus the daring plunge back is sure to make heads turn. Be warned though, with long shipping times that ASOS has been guilty of lately, if you live in the US you may not get this in time for your holiday soiree!

But a dress like this Fishtail Pattern sequined number from JCPenny would be shipped to you US ladies in just a few short days, and the pattern makes it different from a lot of other sequined pieces I've seen!

jcpennysequinedfulljcpennysequined

I'm pretty impressed with JCPenny's dress selection this holiday season, especially by this sequined dress (on left). This dress is fully sequined front and back, unlike other dressed which are only sequined in front and just fabric in back. The scoop neck, short sleeves, and medium length are bound to look great on every shape. I can see myself rocking this with tights and sky-high heels. All of JCPenny's dresses run up to a 24W!

Another great pick from Bisou Bisou at JCPenny on the right: The plunging sequined neckline is great for those who want to let the girls out to play, while the bandage skirt will make your curves look killer.

nordsequinedjsnordsequinedck

The Sequin Striped dress is one of my very favorite dresses of the holiday season. The curved stripes of sequins give so much shape and make your waist look tiny. The V-neck is beautiful too. Add the A-line skirt and you've got one beautiful silhouette.

For those who want just a touch of shine, this CK dress (right) may be perfect. Simple scoopneck and long sleeves on top with some sass on the hem. This dress could totally do double duty at work with tights and modest heels, and some sexy booties for a night out.

nordsequinedmacyssequined

Another pretty pick from CK is this gold and black sequin dress. The two colors together make for some big time visual interest, I just wish that it was sequined front and back, and not just the front. Hey, if JCPenny can do it, Calvin Klein should be able to do it. Just sayin'.

Here's another dress that shines, but on a more subdued level. The rich tweed fabric sprinkled with tiny sequins, plus the pretty embellished neckline make for another stylish double-duty dress.

Velvet

Velvet is not longer just for little girl's gowns and old lady dresses. The fabric has made a huge comeback this winter, especially in the holiday dress department.

torridvelvetasosvelvet

On left is a great dress from Torrid for those of you ladies who can rock the strapless look (that sure as hell isn't me lol). I am really digging this! Touche, Torrid! The slight sweetheart neckline and belt makes this very fairly-priced dress look expensive!

Another pick from ASOS Curve on the right, so keep in mind the long shipping time. This dress has a really cute shape with draping that extends from the bust like all the way to the hem. It comes in a deep red too, which is great for the holidays, but prefer the pretty gunmetal grey, it's a little edgier in my opinion.

Monifcvelvetjcpennyvelvet

Ohh dear lordy. The Monif C. Alexandra dress has me melting into a giant, lustful puddle of "I WANT I NEED...RIGHT NOW!" I have a major hard-on for long sleeved dresses, and the low cowl neck and ruched skirt make my heart skip a beat. SALE, PLEASE???

If you, like me, just can't afford to shell out close to $230 for a dress, you might want to look into this less expensive option, another one from JCPenny.

A Pop of Color

Stand out from the crowd by opting for one of these jewel-toned beauties rather that the standard LBD this holiday season.

evansredtorridpurple

You guys all know that there's nothing better than a double duty piece in my book. The Love Diamond dress from Evans can definitely be put in that category. Wear it as a tunic with a cardi, leggings or skinnies, and cute flats for work, or amp up the sex appeal with tights and heels. Once again, be aware of long shipping times from the UK to US.

This pretty satin dress from Torrid is another nice strapless option. I love this deep plum hue, it looks great on all skin tones. And pockets! Love!

nordsatinbluenordsatinred

The Alex Evenings dress is such a stunning color you'd be hard to miss at any party. You may not think blue reads "holiday," but with the soft sheen of the satin, delicate pleating, and embellishment on the hip, I beg to differ.

Props to Calvin Klein for doing such a great job with dresses, and other clothing, for plus women. This gorgeously blackened red dress is so versatile - show off your décolletage with big sparkly earrings and a  cuff, or turn some heads with a statement necklace and a cocktail ring. You could even belt it to dress it down a bit!

What will you be wearing to this year's holiday celebrations?

I just want to take a second to thank every one of you, subscribers and one time visitors, who is out there reading the blog and leaving such wonderful comments. You guys don't know how much I appreciate every one! I just hit 50 followers a few days ago and I'm still in shock! I truly never thought I'd have any readers at all, let alone some who support me on the regular with such sweet remarks about my posts and outfits. My confidence is boosted way up knowing I have this great community of beautiful women behind me! Bottom line? I love you all and THANK YOU!

And welcome to some newcomers too :) Elata, Ace, and Lynn of The Style Diaries. It's great to see you here!

Murphy's Law

If there is one person in the world who continuously gets screwed by Murphy's Law, it's my sister. Sometimes, the things that happen to her are just so ridiculous that you have to laugh.

Case in point: This weekend's Michigan adventure. A 9 hour road trip, Four Loko, an open container citation, and one crazy football game later, Kali (that's my sister), Demetri (her BF) and I were back in the car, packed and ready to go. She drives an old VW Passat (which was a heap) that my dad bought and had fixed up. When we finally arrived in Michigan at 6am on Friday morning, the VW sounded ROUGH, so we stopped at a gas station to check the oil and make sure everything was ship shape before we hit the road again for the drive home. It looked fine - until she tried to start the car again...and got nothing. Poor girl! She was too scared of my dad's wrath to call him herself so she got my brother to do it for her. Fortunately for her, it turned out the problem was one she couldn't have prevented, so we turned out attention to the little problem of getting home. Me having work on Monday, I thought I was screwed. My dad's a smart cookie though and told us to take my brother's car home and have him take the VW when he comes for Thanksgiving. Dad saves the day!

Anyway, that was my weekend adventure and it sure was worth the 18 hour round ride.

If you haven't checked it out, visit me on Twitter @FataleFashion to see a few impromtu outfit photos I did during the trip :)

Back to business! I'm a little behind so here's my outfit from Thursday. I snapped these in a rush before leaving on our mini vacation.

FF11182FF11183

This jacket has been in my closet for a while. I always got frustrated trying to wear it because these flaps of fabric behind the lapels would always poke out and look funny. Between that and long sleeves, I felt like it just looked very unflattering. I finally got around to sewing down those fabric flaps and decided to give it a go with rolled sleeves. Ta da! I actually quite like the way it fits after my alterations. Looking at the pics now, I wish that I'd gone with a big statement necklace to break up the high neckline of this top - that, or a top with a lower neckline. I love the print on this top though and I liked the colors together so I went with it.

I'd like to take a moment to say a word about these jeans. These are Calvin Klein Boyfriend fit jeans - they are hands down the most comfortable and best fitting jeans I own. No DIY necessary! Also, they're made of the most luxuriously soft denim. These are worth every penny! (FYI - The link above is a different wash than mine, but the fit is the same.) In my book, CK has the best plus size jeans...I'm planning to try out their jeggings as well :)

I love these shoes I picked up a Target a few years ago! The almond toe is so classy and they have such a cute little wedge. These are so easy to dress up or down!
