Teacher Attire

I have two words to explain my absence. Ok, four.

Summer vacation.

Student teaching.

Ahhh student teaching has taken over my LIFE! My outfits lately? TEACHER ATTIRE FOR DAYS!! #skinnyarm

Leave a comment for outfit details :)

I have been obsessed with looking at watches lately. I'm still in love with my Michael Kors, but I'm in the market for something a little different. Have you every seen these beauties by Tissot? I'm in love with this watch with a gorgeous brown leather strap and rose gold detail! It's edgy and a little masculine but still really feminine with the rose gold. Love it! You can find more Tissot here!

Start fresh

BeFunky
Get the look: Blazer (similar) and boots (similar): Nordstrom Rack. Jeggings: Old Navy. Top: Guinness Storehouse, Ireland.

It's that time of year when everyone is looking for new beginnings. I've got some new beginnings of my own - a new semester of school, a new haircut, and of course tons of new clothes from over the holiday season. I'm the queen of buying for myself as much, if not more, than for other people while gift shopping. Who can blame me, everything is on sale during the holiday season! And the only thing that beats holiday sales? Post holiday sales :D I may as well have stolen these gorgeous suede Sofft boots from Nordstrom Rack last week - I got them on clearance for $40! Now that is what I call a bargain. If you're in the market for the latest womens designer clothes for a steal, check out Morgan Clare's giant blowout sale! Another great site to check out for ladies designer clothing is My-Wardrobe.com. They've got clothes, bags and accessories from every designer from Michael Kors, to Burberry, to Vivienne Westwood!

All In Black

image
Get the look: Jacket and top: Express, leggings: Target, Boots, Joyce Leslie (similar)

A year ago, if you asked my to describe my style, I probably would have said feminine with a retro twist. I was big into fit and flair dresses with cute cardigans and tights. Lately though, I've been drawn to edgier looks, like this all black ensemble I wore out with some friends recently. This moto jacket from Express has been an almost everyday wear for me these last few weeks. It looks good over everything! A pair of leggings, a tunic, and boots, and that's been my general look lately. I got these boots from Joyce Leslie, they were inexpensive, but their quality reflects that. I've been browsing around Cataluna, they have a nice selection of wide calf boots, as well as tons of plus size clothing. I've never bought purchased from them, can anyone speak for the quality?

Date Night Unblogged

image
Get the look: Sweater dress (similar, similar), tights, Boots (similar), Necklaces, Watch

Another unblogged outfit for you guys today! I wore this out to dinner for a date this past weekend. I was so excited when I found this sweater dress at Nordstrom Rack while Christmas shopping. I think it's so unique with the wrap ties, which can be tied in the front or back for different looks. I like tying it in the front to define my waist and add a little extra detail. I paired it with opaque tights and boots to dress it down a little - I'd probably do sheer black tights and black pumps to dress it up.

I was a little stumped for accessories - I'm a chunky necklace sort of girl but with the waist tie it felt a little bit much. I decided to stick to a trio of delicate gold necklaces by Rachel Roy, and my Michael Kors watch and a few bangles. A good watch is such a staple, I wear mine almost every day ever since receiving it for my birthday this past March. Hsamuel Watches has a large selection, and many of them are on sale if you're in the market!

Unblogged

Sorry for the mirror pic (and the one you'll be seeing in the next few posts), but I did promise some Unblogged outfits! Here's a little something I put together for a night out in Astoria for some Greek music a few weeks back. I love this peplum top from H&M, but it often throws me for a loop as far as how to wear it. With denim I sometimes feel it's too much blue, with red bottoms, too matchy-matchy. I'm usually not such a fan of pairing navy blue with black, but I love the silhouette the peplum top creates with the jersey skirt. Anyone have other ideas of how to wear the top?

By the way, do you see anything funky going on with the layout here on FataleFashion? Sometimes when I use Firefox it looks the the post background has gone transparent, but on IE it looks normal. I don't know how to fix it!

Oh, hey

Man oh man have I been a blogging slacker lately!! Big thanks to reader Jennifer for calling me out on it and getting me back here :) Things have been super crazy for me, being back in school full time. I forgot how much work being a student is! But, at least my hard work has paid off so far, I've got at least one A so far, and am expecting three more! Fingers crossed!

Get the look: Trousers: Target, Top: H&M (similar), Scarf: Target (similar), Heels: Nordstrom Rack (similar), Necklace H&M (similar), Watch: Michael Kors

So, though I haven't really been sharing I have been dressing myself, promise! I wore this to observe a 5th grade class at a local middle school. Slacks are not usually my thing, I never even wore them when I worked in an office, but this pair from Target were a great color and fit really well, and I know they'll get some good use once I'm in the classroom regularly.

It's funny, there are two complete opposites to my style at the moment. My everyday looks have been getting much more edgy - I've been leaning towards putting together outfits that are a lot of black; I'm obsessed with mixing different textures of black together. Also, I hardly ever wear jeans anymore, I'm always in leggings and tunics for some reason. On the other hand, I'm trying to figure out ways to put together "teacher chic" looks, as I like to call it. Even though I'll need to dress conservatively as a teacher, I'm figuring out how to do it in a fun way!

I haven't had a chance to take full outfit photos in a while, so expect a few Unblogged mirror picture posts in the next few days!

The colors, Duke, the colors!!!

Remember that old popsicle commercial? No? Oh well.

Yesterday was Everybody, Everwear's neon day, so how perfectly appropriate is this outfit I wore out for dinner and drinks in Hoboken on Saturday? This scarf, which I picked up on a whim at Kohl's, has quickly become my favorite and is practically a staple in my wardrobe at the moment. I'm wearing it right now in fact -  it goes with everything! For those nights when I'm not in the mood to go out in a dress or anything all that revealing, an outfit like this is my go to - A few pops of color, an interesting tank, and a cute heel amp up the funk factor for a basic outfit that looks just as appropriate at the bar as it does at the office (yup, recycled this outfit on Monday!).

I'm BLUE badabadeedabadie...

main 2 3
Get the look: Top, skinnies (similar), scarf, shoes, ring (similar), watch

Rain, rain go away! I managed to snap a few pictures yesterday in a brief reprieve in the nonstop rain we've been having the last few days. It's so depressing! I'm ready for some warmth and sunshine like nobody's business!

These cobalt skinnies from the Gap are my new favorite pants. They're super comfortable, a great length, and surprisingly versatile for such a bright color. I love how they look paired with my Kiyonna top and this great scarf. Who would have thought all these colors would work so well together? I'm seriously contemplating going back for a pair in white...

A million years of unblogged.

Contrary to the number of outfits I post around these parts lately, I do indeed get dressed on a daily basis - it'd be kinda awkward if I didn't, no? Here's what I've been wearing lately. Questions about any outfit or piece? Leave a comment or email me :)

Dotty Easter

Get the look: cardigan, dress (similar), shoes (similar), necklace (simlar), ring (similar)

You might think I'm a bit behind the times with my Easter post...NAY SIR, INCORRECT! I'm Greek Orthodox, and this year our Easter (according to the old calendar) fell the week after everyone else's. Not unusual, in fact the last two years when our Easter was the same day, that was unusual.

I was going back and forth between wearing this outfit and an adorable navy and coral colorblocked dress I picked up at Nordstrom Rack. This one ultimately won because realistically, I just couldn't resist wearing the neon cardigan on such a gorgeous day - in the sun it was eye-searingly bright! Love it!

You might remember my very favorite polka dot dress from this post back in October. I was so sad because since then, I've dropped a few sizes and the 2x dress was just swimming on me. I almost peed with excitement when I saw the same dress again on Forever21's site - it took me about 2.5 seconds to order it again in XL! Looks like I'm not the only one who loves it because it's already disappeared from the site. I listed the original in the Fatale Fashion Smashion shop but one lucky lady snapped it up within a few hours - if you've got a store that carries the plus line near you I'd definitely make a visit to try to find it in-store!

Buy it now: Cardigan (similar), red skinny jeans (similar), heels (similar)

Red pants. Enough said.

I had to take this pair in at the waist to make them fit (my usual deal with Forever21+ pants) but for the price, it's worth the tweak. These pants make such a statement, and they're surprisingly versatile for such a bold piece. You'll be seeing more of them for sure!

Underneath your clothes...

wordsmain
Buy it now: belt, wedges

It's amazing what the right undergarments will do. There was a time that I couldn't wear this dress without a scarf or without pinning the neckline to my bra - there was just too much bra showing to be appropriate! Enter my new best friend, the Andorra Full Cup Bra from Panache - I bought mine from Intimacy (best bra shopping experience EVER, I highly recommend!). The girls are up, the neckline is low, and the look is perfection :)

Speaking of undergarments, the girls aren't the only ones being taken care of at the moment. I'm super picky when it comes to my undies - I can't stand synthetic or polyester-like fabric in this case, nor do I want to be wearing underwear in weird, non-stretchy cotton (I've come across both - not good times). And there's nothing worse than too-tight underwear giving the dreaded VPL and muffin top, amiright? I like my everyday undies in soft, stretchy, comfortable cotton that breathes and moves with me. Duchess & Duchess gets it! That's why they created a line of pretty, flirty, and (most importantly) comfortable undies in sizes 1X-3X. The creators, Nina and Ines, were kind enough to send me a pair of hipsters and a thong to try out, and I must say, they did a great job with these! They have everything I look for: soft cotton, stretchy, enough coverage to be comfortable but still really cute.

If you're a size 3X (52"-54" hips) it's your lucky day! I have 2 pairs to give away to one lucky lady (one thong and one hipster)! This'll be a quick one - giveaway closes at 12:01am on Monday! Use the Rafflecopter form below to enter :)

Crisp and clean

IMG_7804IMG_7817IMG_7809IMG_7800IMG_7821

I'm feeling a little déjà vu in this printed top with black bottoms and a white jacket - it's almost identical to an outfit I wore in early June of last year, but I like the proportions of this version much better!

Old Navy treated me very, very well this week. On Tuesday Jennifer and I went to browse around the mall, and this white denim jacket and pair of black Rockstar Jeggings are two of the pieces I picked up. I love them alone, I love them together! The pants are going to be my go-to pair this spring and summer, now that my black Michael Kors ankle pants are too big. And the white jacket is the perfect topper for so many outfits! I picked up a gorgeous maxi dress as well that's going to look so cute with it :) For reference, I'm wearing a Large as I like a snug fit.

Whoever said that curvy girls shouldn't wear skinny jeans is absolutely out of their goddamn mind. To be quite frank, I love the way my legs and curves look in the very skinniest of skinnies, these especially! If you haven't tried the Rockstar Jeggings yet, you most definitely should. Many of the washes are sold out online but I had a lot of luck finding them in stores so be sure to pop in to your local Old Navy - I picked up second dark wash pair for good measure as well, since I love my first pair so much! These jeggings are so soft and super stretchy, comfort to the max! Size up as they run small - I'm wearing a 16 here.  Be aware though, the regular (denim-colored) Rockstars are a different fabric (77% cotton, 21% polyester, 2% Spandex) than the colored ones (98% cotton, 2% spandex) making the fit different. I've found that the colored version are not as stretchy and more snug.

Jacket and jeggings: Old Navy
Top and Watch: Michael Kors
Shoes: Bandolino

Hope you all have a lovely weekend :)

Spring has sprung.

IMG_7775
IMG_7762IMG_7774IMG_7771IMG_7761

The weather has been absolutely unreal the last week or so here in my corner of the east coast. 75 degrees in March?! Unheard of. This time last year we were hit by of month of storms and were blanketed under a few inches of snow. I'm just hoping mother nature has had her fill of chilly days for the season and is as wholeheartedly pro-spring as I am!

IMG_7787IMG_7782IMG_7784

I love the beginning of spring, when it's warm enough to prance about without a jacket, but cool enough that a dress with tights and boots is still comfortable - I have a feeling you'll be seeing me in some similar get-ups to this one, at least while this gorgeous weather lasts.

In the mean time, there's a pile of laundry about the size of Mount Everest in my room that's waiting to be conquered. It might explain the "I have nothing to wear" feeling I've been getting while trying to clothe myself each morning. That, and the fact that a lot of my stuff is too big now. In that vein, keep an eye on the shop - I'll be adding a TON of items very soon!

Bare

IMG_7733
IMG_7732

Oh la la, a day at the theater! It may have only been the black box theater at Rutgers, but I was very excited to go see "Bare: A Pop Opera" last Saturday with my friend Ashley. It may not have been Broadway, but anytime I go see a performance of any type I like to look nice! Seems a little silly doesn't it, being that you're sitting in the dark, but it must be the theater geek in me that wants to "respect the art." And hey, I had plans to get drinks after, so I needed to do double duty! Thankfully, Kiyonna had sent me this great top just a few days prior and it was just what I was looking for.

IMG_7731
IMG_7728IMG_7730

This is the Trina top in green, and I must say, it's another hit in my book. It's made of a thick, luscious stretch jersey, and is cut perfectly to accommodate a larger chest, even with the V-neckline. No pins needed, and I'm able to wear my everyday, lock-and-load 'em bra with nothing peeking out. The three-quarter sleeves are fitted and hit at the perfect spot just below my elbows - I hate loose sleeves on shirts and will push them up most of the time anyway, so this cut is right up my alley.  I also love how the shirt skims my body around the midsection; it doesn't cling one bit and is so, so flattering to my figure.

The Trina is simple and elegant, but so well constructed that it doesn't need any bells and whistles to look great. A pair of skinnies, a pretty necklace, and a pair of wedges and off I went!

Bumble bee

IMG_7692IMG_7687IMG_7696IMG_7701IMG_7698

Despite looking a bit like an angry stinging insect, I really have a thing for bright mustard paired with rich black. Case in point: this post from way back in 2010, and this instagram as well.

I decided to dress up this relatively feminine outfit with my knotted leather belt and rocker-ish boots to make it a little edgier. I like how it turned out!

Oh, and lookie lookie! I bought myself a new amber ring from Etsy to replace the stolen one (tear!), and also as a reward for losing 26lbs so far :D
