Date Night Unblogged

image
Get the look: Sweater dress (similar, similar), tights, Boots (similar), Necklaces, Watch

Another unblogged outfit for you guys today! I wore this out to dinner for a date this past weekend. I was so excited when I found this sweater dress at Nordstrom Rack while Christmas shopping. I think it's so unique with the wrap ties, which can be tied in the front or back for different looks. I like tying it in the front to define my waist and add a little extra detail. I paired it with opaque tights and boots to dress it down a little - I'd probably do sheer black tights and black pumps to dress it up.

I was a little stumped for accessories - I'm a chunky necklace sort of girl but with the waist tie it felt a little bit much. I decided to stick to a trio of delicate gold necklaces by Rachel Roy, and my Michael Kors watch and a few bangles. A good watch is such a staple, I wear mine almost every day ever since receiving it for my birthday this past March. Hsamuel Watches has a large selection, and many of them are on sale if you're in the market!

Unblogged

Sorry for the mirror pic (and the one you'll be seeing in the next few posts), but I did promise some Unblogged outfits! Here's a little something I put together for a night out in Astoria for some Greek music a few weeks back. I love this peplum top from H&M, but it often throws me for a loop as far as how to wear it. With denim I sometimes feel it's too much blue, with red bottoms, too matchy-matchy. I'm usually not such a fan of pairing navy blue with black, but I love the silhouette the peplum top creates with the jersey skirt. Anyone have other ideas of how to wear the top?

By the way, do you see anything funky going on with the layout here on FataleFashion? Sometimes when I use Firefox it looks the the post background has gone transparent, but on IE it looks normal. I don't know how to fix it!

Serpentine

IMG_7375IMG_7374IMG_7388IMG_7419IMG_7425

I took these outfit pics over a span of about 10 minutes, and just look how much the light changed in that short span of time! I'm grateful for the beautiful sunshine we've had here for the last day or two, but man is it cold! I was hoping we'd keep a balmy 45 degrees around all winter, but no such luck.

This winter has been all about the sweaters for me. My mom gifted me some great stuff from TJ Maxx for Christmas, and though it didn't all fit, I'm not complaining because I picked up this awesome belted sweater with my store credit. I love the variation of the brown hues with the black, and also love how the solid black sleeves give it the look of a short sleeved sweater over a long sleeved shirt.

I was in the mood for some texture so instead of plain black leggings or jeans, I decided to pair the sweater with these flippin' awesome snake print leggings I picked up at Target a few weeks back. I love these so much! They're subtle enough that it just looks like a slight metallic sheen from far away, but up close you can really see the fantastic snake skin print.

Is there a staple you just can't stop wearing this winter? Boots? Hats?

Long time coming

IMG_7307IMG_7305IMG_7321

Wearing this skirt was a long time coming. I picked it up way back in April at the Fat Girl Flea Market. From what I can tell it's quality, made of a thick, almost suede-ish/velveteen sort of fabric (I'll have to check the tag), and really well constructed with finished seams and darting at the waist. It was originally almost ankle length, and a little roomy when I picked it up. -23lbs later, it's way too big and begging for a make over. Last week my most patient mother helped me hem it up and take it in at the seams (thanks, Mom!). Voila! A funky new skirt for work! But, I may have placed an order from Forever21 for snugger, shorter, jersey version for play :)

Christmas came early

IMG_7237IMG_7260IMG_7240IMG_7267IMG_7258IMG_7257

Christmas came early, or you'd think it did with all the new stuff I'm sporting! First and foremost, how do you like my new specs? I've been dying for a new pair of glasses for ages and I am absolutely head over heels in love with this pair of Ray-Bans I got from LensCrafters. Having glasses you want to wear makes all the difference (oh, and seeing better too, that's always good).

Another new addition is this cozy grey sweater I picked up at Syms - everything is on super sale there now since they're going out of business. If you have one by you I highly recommend you check it out! This sweater is a similar shape to this one, where the waterfall is short on top. To make it less bulky and define my shape, I took the top corners of the waterfall and pinned them behind my back, and topped it with an elastic belt to really get the job done. Layered over this knit dress and patterned tights, this outfit was warm and comfy as can be :)

Last, but most certainly not least, the new boots I've been waiting for from Evans! I am so in love with these boots - they're so versatile. They can be dressed down for an outfit like this one, or, as I wore them for this weekend out for dinner and drinks, with a bodycon skirt and a blazer. I know I'll find a million more ways to wear them soon enough. If you're interested, they're on sale at Evans! Seriously, if the price is right, I'm going to buy a back up pair!

You're an animal tonight

Oh, sunshine. Between shorter days and lots of rain, it's a rare sight these days (and getting rarer).

So, I decided to keep my Evans booties after all. They're cute no? They are a bit roomy but with a pair of thick socks they fit well enough, and I love them with skinnies - these skinnies in particular, the Zip Me Skinny Jean from City Chic. On sale and with a credit I snagged these babies for just over a dollar! They fit so well through the leg and butt, but of course are roomy in the waist - it's my usual problem with all this junk in my trunk. I had to hold 'em up with a belt this time, but they'll be making their way down to my sewing room for a quick darting soon enough. But if you're straight through the waist and hips I can't recommend these jeans enough! They're super stretchy and comfortable, and I just love the rich, dark wash.

Oh, and do you like my new bag?? Finally, a purse big enough to hold all the crap I lug around. I scored it off ideeli; the price was so good that I just had to get the black version for my sister for Christmas as well! I just might have to borrow it - that's allowed right?

Up for grabs: Evans Booties

I ordered these Evans booties a few weeks ago and they're simply too wide and even a bit too big for my 9-9 1/2 foot. I got them with a sale code for $40 + shipping, but I'm willing to sell them for $35 + shipping (I'd let you know how much shipping would be from my PO before I sent - they're selling for $49 + $10 shipping on Evans right now). Anyone interested? Questions about the booties? Email me or comment here!

Back to my default pairing of this red Forever21+ skirt: black! I love the drapey silhouette the sleeves of this top creates with the fitted skirt, and how a thin black belt cinched it so perfectly around my waist. I really can never get enough of black, white silver and red together; it's just so crisp and chic!

In other news: It's looking like these boots, my most favorite pair from Evans circa 2009, are about ready for retirement. Let's be real, they were ready for retirement LAST season, but I just couldn't bear to part with them - they're so comfortable and fit my wide calves perfectly!

But I've got my eye on another pair from Evans to replace my dearly departed friends...

Falling Deep in Blue

Man, it's been a crazy couple days! Bloggers, don't you hate when you're wearing super cute outfits but just can't find a spare minute to take pictures? It feels like such a waste! Anywho, I'm back and ready to share!

I know I'm not the only one who's completely sick of winter at this point and ready for some warm weather, but I will say this - I'm definitely going to miss tights and boots once the weather heats up! I love how throwing them on with a dress makes for an instantly cute outfit, not to mention not having to hassle with Spanx for the dreaded chub rub, or not having to worry about a dress being just an inch or two too short. Tights solve all problems!! And these Evans boots are one of my favorite purchases of the season. Even though the heel tip is long gone (which means the metal tip makes tons of noise when I walk, oh well), they go with EVERYTHING. And heel tips can be replaced...right?

This blue and black color-blocked dress is a great double duty piece though;  it's shortsleeved under my cardi and will be super cute with bare legs and a pair of wedges in the spring and summertime. I love the banded waist because it gives great shape with out even having to belt it if I don't want to.

I was having a tough time in the morning trying to decide what sort of accessories I wanted to pair with this outfit. I started with a skinny leopard print belt, but then couldn't find the right length gold necklace to pair with in. Then I went for a black belt, but couldn't decide on a necklace for that either! With time quickly running out (I was definitely late to work), I snatched up this blue belt and the first necklace I saw and ran out the door. Perhaps not my proudest accessories moment, but at least the gold buttons sort of make sense with the gold necklace and my bow ring (just smile and nod!).

Speaking of the ring!

It's the bow ring I won from BBM's Torrid Accessories Giveaway! Thanks, girl! I love it!

Speaking of boots, I think I may have finally found the pair that satisfies my OTK craving!
torrid por

Well, not really OVER the knee, but TO the knee, about halfway up my knee cap.

Let me give you some quick back story. On Monday I found out that I won the office superbowl pool! So I took my $120 buckaroos and of course headed to the mall with the determinations of finding OTK boots. I tried on the Annie OTK boots Torrid has, and to be quite honest I think they look ridiculous. The sales girl suggested I try the Amy Knee-high boots, which aren't OTK, but which came to my knee cap, which I acutally think is the perfect height. It's trendy without being too over the top. Though I wasn't crazy about the pleather or the seam down the middle of the boot, at $40 I took them home to think on it.

Then, as it always happens in my world, I was browsing Torrid's site when I saw the Ashley Perforated Boot, which was exactly what I've been wanting - high enough, wide enough, and suede(ette), which I think looks more expensive and classier than pleather. Also, minus the ugly middle seam! Of COURSE they were sold out online, and not available at any of the four Torrid's in my area. Thank goodness for a helpful shopgirl, who tracked down a pair in my size in a Connecticut Torrid and is having them shipped to my local store :) Yay! The lesson here? If something's sold out, ask the shop to track them down for you at another location!

Those blue and yellow purple hills

Ha! I didn't mean for this post title to be as inappropriately hilarious as it is, but it works!

Christmas shopping is dangerous. Such good sales and deals, for every present I bought for someone I ended up buying a present for myself as well...not that I'm complaining lol! This ruffled top from Macy's was one of my multiple Christmas gifts to myself. As soon as I saw it on the sale rack, the bright and funky print had me at hello. Today I paired it with my trusyt purple cardigan (it's been getting a lot of play lately, I think this is a sign I need more cardigans), but I love that there's so many colors to pull from...I would have loved to pair it with a yellow cardi if I had one!

FF1217ACC2FF1217ACC3
FF1217ACC1

Doesn't the print sort of remind you of a butterfly wing? I also love the fact that it zips in the front, you all know how I feel about zippers! I do have some cons on this top though; It's not printed all way way around, the back side of this top is a  black stretchy jersey. I guess this is good for the fit of the shirt, because it doesn't slide around as much as a fully silky top normally would, but I do find it annoying because I feel like I can never wear this without a cardigan over it. Also, I had trouble keeping the front of the cardi in place because of the silky fabric; it would just sliiiiiide right on off the girls. That's why I belted it, to keep the cardi in place as well as giving it structure. Next time I think I'll have to play around with safety pinning the cardi right to the shirt. I just hate having to tug at my sweater all day to make sure the girls are covered!

Do you like my new bling bling watch? The wristband is rubber! This style is great because you get the perfect combo of the masculine (I like the large face with the different gauges, even if I don't know how to use them) and the feminine sparkle. I love pairing a big watch with lots of bracelets :) Both of these came from Syms, which, If I'm not mistaken, is owned by Filene's Basement. If you have a Syms in your area, it's worth a trip! They're like TJ Maxx except geared more towards business casual, and also much more organized. I find that the quality of the clothes they sell are generally better than what you find at TJ Maxx. They have a good plus section, too (at least mine does). I've gotten LOTS of great stuff from Syms, including an awesome pair of Ray-Ban Wayfarers yesterday for only $60!
