The point of my little diatribe is that, among many compliments I got on this outfit at work yesterday, a particular one sticks out in my mind. I have one coworker, a middle aged guy, who is (surprise surprise) pretty awkward and only talks to me via email. He sends me daily photos of dogs in costumes, as well as leaving Yankees trivia cards on my desk (no complaints there). He has the odd habit of calling eating 'banging' - don't ask me why, 'cause I really couldn't tell you. Anyway, this message popped up in my inbox yesterday morning:
"Whoa...
you banging somewhere special tonight ... ?
river palm terrace, legal seafoods, mccormick and shmicks?
very fancy!!!!!"
If only my friend, if only.
On to the good stuff! I love this outfit, which totally came out of the blue as I was scrabbling through my closet yesterday morning. I got the shoes and belt from Forever21 on Saturday and was dying to wear them. I've really been liking the monochromatic trend we've been seeing a lot of lately, and I thought it might work out nicely with this cardigan I got agesss ago from Old Navy, and probably haven't worn in about as long. It juuuust eeked it's way through my closet cleanout on Friday night, and I'm really glad it did, because I'd say this is one of my favorite outfits since starting this blog back in September.
Can I just say, this ASOS Curve dress is probably one of my favorite purchases of the past year. It's so so versatile and has such great shape - you can see how it hugs my hips while draping at the tummy, which give perfect coverage for those spots I'd rather conceal. I also love the seaming at the bust which makes the girls look very nice indeed. Honestly, if I knew I'd love it this much, I would have bought two just to have a back up. I love it with the grey tights, which are rather unexpected and give the whole look a pretty softness.
This necklace is one of my very favorites. I believed it used to belong to my sister's roommate, but I've had it for a few years now lol! It was the perfect statement piece to tie this entire look together. It's my version of the Lanvin for H&M necklace everyone went nuts for (if that thing wasn't going for almost a hundred bucks, it's be mine.)!
I forgot to take pics of the heel of the shoe, which is my favorite part, so here's a quick blackberry shot I snapped at the office. Yay for cone heels!

You look fabulous today my dear! And your co-worker...what a weirdo, kindda freaks me out a little bit.
ReplyDeletei love this!
ReplyDeletecompletely hillarious description of your office nutters, i love the crazies. In my town we have some proper characters who eveyone knows!
Like the transvestite who doesn't make an effort and the guy who i've seen quite a bit hugging a wooden spoon.
: )

@Morgain lol! A tranny and a spoon lover, sounds interesting lol!
ReplyDelete@Ashley he freaks me out too! And nobody knows what he does here...he just kinda...is.
I thought I had some strange folks where I work!
ReplyDeleteLove your outfit! I have been looking for belts to mix in my wardrobe but have a tummy...I see the Forever21 belts only go up to m/large. How do you find they run in comparison to pant sizes? I am a 16W. Thanks!
That is a great story! As someone who used to also work in newspapers, I can attest to the . . . unsavory . . . characters in the biz. Cute outfit, too!
ReplyDeleteHad to LOL at the major creeper story. I really love this outfit on you too. The fit is obviously perfect, and I really love the contrast of the gray with bright pink/orange. P.S. sooooooooo jealous of your shoes. They've been on my "I want..." list for awhile. You probably don't have wide feet, but how do you think those would fit on someone who has a little wider of feet?
ReplyDelete@Dee I am also a 16W - I do have a fairly small waist in comparison to my hips (37 waist, 49 hips), so for me, the M/L just makes it around the smallest part of my waist, with just enough to get the tail through the loop of the belt (you can see in the belt closeup). It would never fit around my hips though!
ReplyDeleteThis belt is great cuz the braid lets you secure it wherever you want without having to worry about holes. Grab a measuring tape - If your measurements are similar to mine the M/L should just work for you as well. Hope that helps!
@Jo it's so true, there are some reallyyy wacky people here!
ReplyDeleteI've been reading your blog for a couple of weeks now...and it's great to see a fashion blog for us curvy girls! I've gotten much inspiration already, and I just wanted to tell you I adore everything about this outfit today!!! (And a laugh out of someone calling eating, 'banging'!) :)
ReplyDelete@theplusside Hm well my feet are a bit wider than average, not superwide though - I usually wear a 9-9.5 and I found that these size 9's were pretty roomy. I think they would be fine for wide feet.
ReplyDeletethose shoes are in my birthday wish bag on forever21.com. I WANT THEM. I also want everything you're wearing, so that's awesome. and I'm not buying any clothes AT ALL... one year. ohhhh birthday fairy, where are you?
ReplyDeletesounds like you have some awesome coworkers. glad you knew what "banging" meant... or else I'd have to suggest filing a harrassment charge with HR. ;)
Cute outfit! My dear, I've noticed your cute rings from Asos in your last couple of posts. What size (#) ring do you usually wear & what size do you order from Asos? I didn't find ring size equivalents on sizes since they run small-large instead of numbered sizes.
ReplyDeletekiller shoes, girl.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous outfit. Love the red shoes and belt.
ReplyDeleteI just started my blog so come and check it out (there's a giveaway coming later this week too !)
i LOVE this on you! such fantastic colors. and i'm dying over the jewelry, of course!
ReplyDeleteand hilarious story, too...!! aaaah!!

Surely Sonsy
@fashionmomma not buying for a year?!? that's torture!!!! I don't think I could even survive a month!!! Let me tell you, the first time he sent me an email with something about banging i was like UHH WHAT?!
ReplyDelete@gianne My ring size is about a 9 so I take a large at ASOS...be warned though, even the large is a bit snug, the two asos rings I have only fit on my right finger, not my middle, and I had to send one back that was a thicker band because it was too tight entirely :(
Oh wow! You have made me love my co-workers that much more! Seems like you have quite the batch of interesting characters around there.
ReplyDeleteAs for the outfit - stunning! Loving everything about it!
you look GREAT!!
ReplyDeleteGoodness girl, you are looking good!!!!!! That dress suits you so well! And I love this monochromatic look/trend as well! That co-worker who sent that email, that had me laughing. That was a poor choice of words that he chose! :) I love this post!
ReplyDeleteHaahaa! You describing your office mates is hilarious! BANGING????!!!! LOL They must make you feel uncomfortable on a regular basis. You do look hot though...love the shoes and necklace!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE THIS OUTFIT!! especially the colors! you almost look too hot for work! love the necklace also..everything flows perfectly!
ReplyDeleteOMG, You made my night. I think I've worked with that dog guy in the past.
ReplyDeleteYou do look banging! Seriously everything is great. Love that ASOS dress.
Missy, you look GORGEOUS here! This look is so flattering and makes your shape AMAZING. I love these shoes, they remind me of the UO ones Kendi has made famous!

I love this outfit! The coraly pink looks great with that dove grey!
ReplyDelete(And, as a girl whose worked in a newsroom for 10 years I had to chuckle at your coworker descriptions. One of our reporters used to clip his fingernails at his desk. So weird.)
@themerrytraveller it is going to be a date night outfit!! Been planning to recycle it tomorrow night when my boy takes me to the theatre :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great outfit, love the statement necklace and the heels aon those shoes are so cute.

I do love a lot of our outfits. I love the look because of it's simplicity, it's chic yet sexy. You pulled this off, girl! I think you can go from office to cocktail/dinner in this outfit with just touching up your make-up. This may be my favorite of you, yet!
