Google Reader "Next" Button!

I love Google Reader for keeping all my blog subscriptions in one place (and there are many...about 200 at the moment), but there are downsides to reading your blogs in that sort of generic format. First of all, it's of impersonal - you don't see the blog's layout or get any of the personality and atmosphere a blog's homepage lends. It's easy to forget just who's blog you're reading! Second, it's not as easy to just scroll down and comment. But I've found a solution, one that I've been using for the past few days and I haven't looked back!

Introducing the Google Reader "Next" Button! It's a tool bar button, much like StumbleUpon, except you scroll through blog posts in your Reader! I love it because I'm taken to the post on the actual blog, so commenting is a breeze and I get the intended ambiance because I'm looking at the blog itself, not just the text and pictures taken out of context like they are in Reader.

So how can you get a "Next" button of your very own? It's easy!

1. Log into Gmail and open up Google Reader.

2. Once you're in Reader, click 'Options' (the wheel) > Reader Settings.

3. Once you're there, click the 'Goodies' tab.

4. In the 'Goodies' tab, scroll down to "Put Reader in a bookmark".

5. Drag and drop the "Next" button to your bookmarks bar, and voilà! It should look like this:

Enjoy :)

  1. Nice, I'm glad they added that feature, because that was one reason I chose bloglovin over google reader. Because blog lovin has the next button and it actually takes you the next blog on it's site, which I love!
